ENVIRONMENT AGENCY ELECTRO-FISH. OF THE RIVER CAM
HOME PAGE
The Environment Agency Electro-fishing the river Cam between Litlebury and Little Chesterford.

This section of the river cam is controled by the Audly End Fly Fishers Club

The equipment they use is a non conductive fibreglass punt, 3 kva generator with a control box (on top of generator) and 2 probes ( anodes) which introduce between 5 and 10 amps of current into the water.
When the fish enter the electrical field they are stunned for a short period of time before being picked up in hand nets and  placed into water filled containers (dustbins) on the boat. They normally recover within 1 or 2 minutes.

In order to carry out this work safely good water clarity is required to enable the fish to be removed quickly.

moderate to slow water conditions are also required to enable the boat and equipment to be manovered downstream
potentionally any work involving water and electricity is dangerous, all Agency fisheries teams are tested on a regular basis to prove they are competent to carry out this work
